John Roberts

John Roberts is a lecturer and PhD Candidate in the History Department at UMass-Amherst. He specializes in Modern Latin American History, with a concentration on drug trafficking, violence, land issues, environmental history, peasants, and coca in the Andes and globally. His Masters Thesis examined the setting, implementation and effects of a U.N. led program to reduce coca growing among peasants in Bolivia. In his dissertation, he plans to re-evaluate the misunderstood relationship between cocaine,  paramilitaries and IDPs in Colombia.
